The Development: Located in the southeast fringes 45 kms south of Perth offers a unique suburban lifestyle with that country feel. Bordered within the confines of Thomas Rd and the South Western Highway it is well positioned to the township of Byford for current and future facilities and also near the Southwest and Tonkin Highways it offers easy access to other population hubs for employment and more facilities. Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire offers a wonderful range of attractions including picnic spots, parks, food and wine, rural landscape, award winning cheese factories, dams, forests, waterfalls, wildflowers, walk/mountain bike/horse trails, arts and crafts and historic towns. The hills forest, streams and fertile coastal plain attracted European settlers to the land that had sustained a diverse Indigenous Australian culture for many thousands of years. In 1906, surveyor A. W. Canning commenced laying out a number of town site lots in the area and “Beenup Townsite” was declared in May of the same year. In 1920 the town was renamed “Byford” and the name was believed to be chosen because it is ‘by a ford’ on Beenyup Brook. The towns of Byford, Mundijong, Jarrahdale and Serpentine reflect in various ways the rich history of the area. From the 1830’s onwards, European settlers established small farms for cattle, sheep, timber towns, horses and crops. Future major development in the shire is planned for Jarrahdale Heritage Park.
